Everything on this site that matters — whether the gate is open, whether the gravel is packed, whether the accessible spot is actually usable — comes from someone who went and told us. Here's how we keep that useful.
Write what you actually saw.
Not what you heard, not what the website says. "The east restroom was locked on Saturday morning" beats "restrooms are unreliable" every time.
Say when you were there.
A trail report from last week and one from last October are completely different things. The date field takes two seconds and doubles the value of your post.
Be specific about access.
If you use a wheelchair, a walker, a stroller, or a cane, tell us what the surface did and where it got hard. Grades, gravel depth, curb cuts, gate widths — the details other people can’t get anywhere else.
Don’t guess about accessibility.
Saying a place "should be fine" for someone with different needs than yours can send a family on a wasted two-hour drive. If you don’t know, say you don’t know.
Keep it kind.
No harassment, no slurs, no dragging other visitors or the people who maintain these places. Disagree with a report? Post your own with what you found instead.
No ads, no spam, no self-promotion.
This isn’t a place to sell guided tours, gear, or your newsletter. Reports that read like marketing get removed.
Protect people’s privacy.
Don’t post photos or descriptions that identify strangers, and never post someone else’s personal information — including exact locations of homes near a trailhead.
We post first and moderate after.
When you post a report, it goes live immediately — no queue, no waiting for approval. Conditions change too fast for anything else. If a post breaks one of the rules above, anyone can hit Flag on it, and a moderator reviews it and either removes the post or dismisses the flag. You can always delete your own reports. We'd rather trust people and clean up afterwards than make everyone wait on us.
