Who we are

Outside For Us is an accessibility-aware outdoor discovery and trip-planning app for Central Oregon, run by Casey Bellon in Bend, Oregon. Outside For Us is free for everyone; Outside+ is an optional paid supporter plan. Questions: hello@outsideforus.app.

What we collect

  • Email address, used to sign you in with a one-time link and to send account and billing emails.
  • Profile details you choose to add: display name, short bio, avatar image link, city, a role (for example parent or adaptive athlete), phone number (optional) and notification settings.
  • Group profiles: the people you plan for and their needs (for example mobility, sensory or dog needs) so we can check whether a place fits. Only you can see these.
  • Trips and saved places you create.
  • Community contributions: condition reports, verifications of place facts, photos you upload, and flags you raise. Reports and approved photos are public on place pages next to a short name (your display name, or a label built from your email such as “Casey B.”). Your full email is never shown.
  • Explorer activity: missions you complete, points, badges and rewards you claim.
  • Phone app push tokens, if you allow notifications, so we can send approvals and reward alerts to your device.
  • Billing records if you subscribe to Outside+: your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, plan, status and renewal date. Stripe handles your card. We never see or store card numbers.
  • Usage and campaign data: page and place views, feature use, Go Today activity, Explorer activity, random first-party visitor/session IDs, referral hostname, and campaign or UTM tags on links and QR codes. This analytics event stream does not store your account ID, email address, raw IP address, or exact “near me” coordinates. Vercel separately keeps standard hosting/request logs.

Location

We store the locations of places, not people. If you use “near me”, your device shares your approximate position with the page so we can sort places by distance. We don’t save it to your account or our database, though it can briefly show up in our host’s standard request logs.

How we use it

  • To run your account, your groups, trips and saves.
  • To show community reports and photos to other visitors.
  • To moderate uploads and reports and keep the safety info trustworthy.
  • To bill Outside+ and send receipts and payment-problem notices.
  • To send push notifications and emails you’ve allowed.
  • To understand which features, links and QR campaigns are useful, improve place-data coverage, and create aggregate reporting for participating land managers. We do not provide them with your account identity.

We don’t sell your data, we don’t show ads, and we don’t share your data for advertising.

Services that process data for us

  • Supabase: database, sign-in and photo storage.
  • Vercel: website hosting and request logs.
  • Stripe: payments and the billing portal for Outside+.
  • Resend: sending email.
  • Expo: delivering push notifications to the phone app.
  • OpenAI: automated safety checks on uploaded photos, and research on public place information. It doesn’t receive your account details.

Your choices and rights

  • Edit your profile and notification settings any time on your account page. Push notifications can be switched off there or in the phone app.
  • Export: use “Download my data” on your account page to get a JSON file of everything linked to your account.
  • Delete: use “Delete account” on the website or in the phone app. It takes effect right away. We delete your profile, groups and the people in them, trips, saved places, photos (including the files), notification settings and devices, rewards and points, and any active Outside+ subscription (we cancel it so you are not charged again). Your community reports and verifications you posted stay up so others can keep using the safety and accessibility info, but your name and account are removed from them.
  • Cancel Outside+ any time in the billing portal on your account page.

Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires, even after you delete your account. Database backups are held by Supabase for a limited period and then expire.

Children

Accounts are for adults. Group profiles can describe children you plan for, and only you can see them. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we’ll delete it.

Changes

If we make a meaningful change, we’ll update this page and email account holders.
